A DeskScapes beta has been released.  This build has a new user interface, effects that can be applied to dreams, and works on XP, Vista, and Windows 7.  Sadly, the effects are Windows Vista and Windows 7 only.

Double-clicking a dream no longer loads a dream.  You will need to use the "Apply changes" button.

Post anything that looks odd.  Make sure to give us your system information including your video card, your OS (including 32 or 64 bit), and if it's hard to explain (or even if it isn't) a screenshot.

You may want to ensure you have the latest DirectX9 runtimes (even on Win7) by installing the following : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2DA43D38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92A3&displaylang=en

There is an issue on some machines with some dreams where the UI may crash out when it builds the dream list.  There will be an update on Friday morning to resolve this.

Double clicking will be back, thumbnails in explorer probably not. The 256x256 graphic is still used in the new UI.
OK thanks Neil, it's is a good trade-off for the new preview facility - which is an excellent piece of work to render out the preview at the speed it does.

Things are working fine with Windows 7 RTM now that I have beta 1 installed.  I'm glad that DeskScapes will work on Windows 7.

My apologies for not appearing sooner, since my wife passed away, I've been away from the scene and lost sight of the latest version of Deskscapes.

Dream Manager relies on the same process that explorer uses when you double click a dream.  Until that is working, Dream Manger won't work.  Once that is working again (or deskscapes gives me an alternative), I can start the process of making it compatible. Until then, It'll have to wait.

Cheers!

masterbaron, you have my deepest sympathies.

Man, MasterBaron, I am so sorry to hear that. Is there anything I can do for you? Anything? Man, my prayers are with you.

I'm so sorry to hear that Baron. As for manager as the beta only just came out its not something  you need to be worrying about at this time. My thoughts are with you as I know how a loss like yours can be.

Bug detected on XP SP3:

When rebooting PC, the Dream which was launched is freezing (mean no more effects, just like a simple wallpaper). In same time any window which is opened can't be closed (well it can, but the window is still displaying on screen ...).

The way to fix things is to disable the Dream via DesKScapes and last wallpaper is launched correctly and everything's goes back correctly

I am unclear on what you mean?

Do you mean that happens briefly during shutdown, or the pc gets stuck, or it is like that after a reboot?

I cleared out all traces of Deskscapes and reinstalled. Stars stopped crashing and now works, but Desktop Collage still acts up on on the preview.

I thought Deskscapes 3 was vista and win 7 only for now?
