A DeskScapes beta has been released.  This build has a new user interface, effects that can be applied to dreams, and works on XP, Vista, and Windows 7.  Sadly, the effects are Windows Vista and Windows 7 only.

Double-clicking a dream no longer loads a dream.  You will need to use the "Apply changes" button.

Post anything that looks odd.  Make sure to give us your system information including your video card, your OS (including 32 or 64 bit), and if it's hard to explain (or even if it isn't) a screenshot.

You may want to ensure you have the latest DirectX9 runtimes (even on Win7) by installing the following : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2DA43D38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92A3&displaylang=en

There is an issue on some machines with some dreams where the UI may crash out when it builds the dream list.  There will be an update on Friday morning to resolve this.

mickeko: There shouldn't be a set as desktop background option on .dream files.  Did you upgrade over 2.5?

Yes, I did. Well, Impulse did it for me really, but that might just be semantics.

It would seem to me that stardock should fix it so that the dream mgr. does see them. I paid for the program, and now it don't work, bummer.

I don't see your point dude, why does it seem to you as Stardock should fix it? They didn't sell it to you.

Is this Version exclusive to object desktop customers only?
I ask because I purchased DeskScapes a few days ago as stand alone product, and even though the update-date in Impulse has changed, I can not install the new Version. Still says not supported by your OS (Win 7 Pro MSDN).

Have you enabled show prereleases in Impulse?

Ah nevermind, found the option, checked it and am downloading.

Installed the updated deskscapes, and my problems are still there.

I tried to capture the issues on video, jing doesn't capture very well with deskscapes running. The issue is quite apparent anyway though. So here's a link.

The very latest update on Impulse should hopefully resolve your crash issue as it did for IAmPas just above this post.

And it did. I regret having a dream manager, for which I paid, that no longer works now. It would seem to me that stardock should fix it so that the dream mgr. does see them. I paid for the program, and now it don't work, bummer.

Other than that, I love the interface.

I've made a post at VistaDream explaining that the manager doesn't seem to "see" the new version of deskscape and hopefully the dream manager writter will see it and work out a fix. Either that or maybe Stardock can add the features from it that I really liked such as being able to set DreamScape to cycle thru selected dreams. That was my favorite feature of the manager.

Otherwise happy to report that thus far the new beta is working well here on Win7 x64

I stand corrected. It would be Master Barons responsibility to keep up.

What did you use the Dream Manager for?

To keep from drooling on my pillow?

To manage dreams?

What did you use the Dream Manager for?

Well since you asked there were a cpl feature of the manager I found nice and useful if Stardock feels like implimenting them

1. It would let you create groups of themes. By this I mean you could create one called Water art and then mark all of your waterfall dreams into that specific group

2. As I mentioned in my previous post you could select multiple dreams or dream groups and using Dream Manger tell it to cycle/change the theme out of those selected on a certain timeframe, say every 5 minutes if you wanted. Isn't nessisarily important but was nice and that way you could completely eliminate the need for a screensaver hehe.

3. One other feature it had was that you could set things so that after a cretain amount of time it would slowly make your open windows and desktop items turn transparent to a user selected lvl.

All in all it was a nice app and I'm sure if its possible the Author will write an update but those were the 3 main features of it I used at least.

The MasterBaron's profile says he was here this morning so he may be aware of the issue with his Dream Manager program.

Since DeskScapes 3 is a beta, I would give him some time to work things out as this probably caught him by surprise.

Dream Manager is a very good program and is well worth the price.

Even if it doesn't get an update, I've already gotten the cost of the programs worth of use out of it.

All works well.

Is the .dream double click to change a dream gone for good ? Also after a Dream is made in DreamMaker only the generic default dream icon shows and not the thumbnail based on the 256 x <257 image, will these return preview icon return? Neither are that important, just wondering.

Pick a picture of a nice landscape and load it as background on the water dream, set drops to occur with a minimum time between drops and put drop size to 75% or so. Finally, switch on extreme motion blur effect... That's really eerie

OMG wave motion in ripple tanks in Physics are back to haunt me !!

Double clicking will be back, thumbnails in explorer probably not.  The 256x256 graphic is still used in the new UI.
