What sorts of features would you like to see in the 4.x series?
Yeah, you'd get an error. It's funny, I just remembered the widget manager does come with an option to clear widget cache, but it's so obscure and I doubt many people even use the widget manager.
- DX + 51 custom files on the same object = POOF!
Fixed size arrays are evil! (and I have to add a workaround to my script compiler now )
I'd like to see a way to query whether another object's script is enabled via script.
I think that, before we all say what we want to see, we should repair what we already have!
1. DXPlayer ........ Rubbish. Take a look at Xion.
2. Right-click ...... Needs extreme updating. Many people use it.
3 Systray .......... Doesn't work at all, ( with Vista ).
I'm sure there is a lot more like this.
Any developers out there ................. Help !!
I've thoroughly enjoyed reading this thread. It's always a treat to listen to people who actually know what they're talking about. Are there any new developments in DesktopX 4.0?
An "Unload DX" option included in the DX dialogue, since many DX skins don't show a system tray. Luckily, a "DX Helper" widget by Randahl with an "Unload" option is available for now Link . It's been a real help.
Also, a clear indication of which objects are linked in parent-children relationships would be nice.
Thanks
Something I've recently had a dire need for: header and footer fields for regular text objects. Much like you have for CPU text plugins. So no matter what the script sets the text to, it would always be preceded or followed by whatever you put in those fields, or you can leave it blank. This would help immensely for weather widgets where right now I may set the script to put a header (e.g. Wind Direction: south, or Visibility: 10 miles) but the user might not want that preamble. Instead of them trudging through the script to get rid of it, they could just open properties and delete the header field.
Just a thought.
OK, this should be easy. I would like the ability to make a shortcut point to a certain fence. Maybe that should be a Fences Pro option? Or could we do it in DX, and would it have to be a script thing, or could it be built in? Just a thought...I'm sure you can see the implications.
Unless I'm mistaken, that is already a part of DX.
Often switching work between dozens of different projects, I have to keep browsing to different locations. A recently opened themes/objects list would be beneficial.
Please consider a proper dialog window for adding custom files. The one we have now is entirely cumbersome, counterintuitive, and unnatural. It's too small, too tedious to navigate, and cannot add multiple files at once.
It would be great to see:
1. Three new ActiveX controls integrated into DesktopX: Multicolumn ListView, TreeView and ImageList (with support for 32-bit images and icons) to make applications like windows explorer. (Or improve the access to MSCOMCTL.DLL. The elements of controls must be skinable - i.e. add the support for WB skins).
2. The OnClick event in the WebBrowser control for active elements of opened pages.
3. The ability to add/use icons in the DX Context Menu.
Issues:
1. DesktopX PushButton and CheckBox control doesn't support the alpha channel. As a result we can see the ugly contour around these controls... Can it will be corrected in the DX4?
2. Object Navigator doesn't keep the font settings and resets it each time on startup... As well as the type of cursor on its ScrollBars is wrong. It show the "Diagonal Resize" instead of "Normal" mouse pointer.
3. When the Windows Media Player Control will start to work in DesktopX? If I remember - the age of this unpleasant bug is more than 1 year!!!!
You know what would be really handy? if there was a redistribute option which distributed a small compact version of desktopx along with your desktop but it would be locked so it could be used on business computers, or on public kiosks or schools etc.
