...because you liked playgrounds and want kids to have them too.

If you aim at nothing, you are sure to hit it.  But if you at least try . . something might happen, right?

I live in a suburb of Detroit; a city that needs help. There are good people trying to do their best and still having trouble.

And it's a city filled with children that have few choices and limited futures.

The YMCA in Detroit has been building schools for the past two years.  Schools that are safe and that have teachers who are trying to build leaders where there has been little hope.

Last year, my wife, kids and I worked at one of the schools before it opened.  We built gardens and outdoor learning centers and a playground.

We are doing it again this year at a new school but are also looking for funding to offset the cost.

So I'm humbly asking for members of this community to check out the site.  See if it's something that you want to get behind.  If it is, click the green donate button on the right and give what you think is right for you.  If you are in the Metro-Detroit area, come by and hep us do the build.

If you can't give right now can you ask your social network if they might give.  That would be awesome.

I hate asking friends, aquaintences, and strangers for support.  It just feels . . .wrong.

But I say to myself, that it would be more wrong not to ask.  It wouldn't be fair to the kids to say that I did everything I could to help them when I didn't.

So . . thanks.

Jafo:  I hope for a speedy recovery for your cat and less expense than expected.  My wife thinks that her dog is priceless . . luckily we've never had to test that but I understd your situation.  I'll look for you in2014 for a build project.

Many thanks to those who have given.  I'm lucky to know such good, caring people.

hopefully that's a little rung on a ladder....

with such a great community spirit.... things can't help but get better....

my son met a lovely lass when he was in LA awhile back.... she was from Flint, Michigan.... she came out to stay for 4 weeks... saw lots of Sydney.... took her on the Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb... and son took her scuba diving up to the Great Barrier Reef which was the thing she most wanted to do in Oz....

from stories she told us.... growing up in Flint wasn't a bed of roses.... times seem to have been very tough there...

good luck with your project...

For the cost so far...Terry and I could probably fly to Michigan and back again........

.....twice.....

.....twice.....

I know where you're coming from... my 18 1/2 yr old required a lot of doctoring in her last 2 yrs.... 3 lots of long term medication for hyperthyroidism etc... just one pill was $100 a month.... and she would have multiple strokes... which she would recover from well, after several days at the 24hr animal hospital... with blood tests etc....  just one of those visits alone at one time was $1800...

all the vets and vet nurses at my clinic have animal insurance.... stands to reason seeing they know how much they charge....

something which I'm looking into with my new rescue boy... especially since he is FIV+  and is certain to have probs down the track...

it's unfortunate you've struck troubles with yours so young... still, as part of the family, you want to give them the best chance.... hope he/she recovers well.... and soon....

Just saw this post. It's a wonderful thing you have done and are doing Aaron.

About a month ago our Ploice station gave the senior center their first computer. I was asked to come and look at it. Well it ran but that was about it. Has plenty of memory and ram so I went out and purchased Win 7 for it. Wiped out the hard drive and installed 7 and it works great. Since I have been back spendinf time with those who wanted to learn a bit about the internet and even paying bills on line. I'm 67 and some of the people at the senior center are actually younger and some older. It amazes me how so many people never used a computer at least older ones. so I go back a couple times a week and help those who want to learn. Fun actually and not a problem since i'm retired and have the time.

Doing good really can be fun.

Again, thanks for all the support with my project.  I hope to have a time-lapse of the whole thing soon.
